PEG-MGF is the PEGylated form of Mechano Growth Factor, the C-terminal peptide of the IGF-1Ec splice variant that muscle tissue expresses in response to mechanical loading. The unmodified peptide is cleared within minutes; conjugating it to polyethylene glycol (PEGylation) extends its stability in solution, which is why the PEGylated form is the standard reference material in this research area.
Researchers use PEG-MGF to study satellite-cell activation, myoblast proliferation and the signaling that distinguishes the MGF E-domain from mature IGF-1, in cell-culture systems such as C2C12 myoblasts and in rodent models of muscle-tissue repair. It is supplied strictly as a research chemical and is not a drug, supplement or therapeutic product.
Real Peptides supplies PEG-MGF as a 2 mg lyophilized powder in a sealed multi-dose vial. Orders ship from Florida and California facilities within 24 hours. For laboratory research use only.
Mechano Growth Factor (MGF) is a splice variant of the IGF-1 gene: when muscle tissue is mechanically loaded or damaged, it transiently expresses IGF-1Ec, whose C-terminal E-domain peptide behaves differently from mature IGF-1. That peptide region is what researchers call MGF. PEG-MGF is the same peptide conjugated to polyethylene glycol — a standard modification that shields the peptide from rapid degradation and extends its usable life in experimental systems from minutes to hours.
Unmodified MGF has one of the shortest functional windows of any research peptide: published work places the native peptide's stability at only a few minutes, which makes consistent exposure in cell-culture systems and animal models difficult to standardize. The PEG conjugate resolves that: the same active sequence, protected by an inert polymer, giving researchers a reagent whose activity window can actually be studied. This is why the PEGylated form, not native MGF, is the standard in the literature.
PEG-MGF is used in preclinical work on muscle-tissue biology: satellite-cell activation and proliferation assays, C2C12 myoblast differentiation studies, and rodent models of muscle repair following mechanical injury. Separate preclinical lines have examined MGF-domain signaling in cardiac and neuronal tissue. These are laboratory models — the compound is supplied for in vitro and animal research only, and no human application is implied or supported.
